The LORD has sworn and will not relent, "You [are] a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek." The Lord [is] at Your right hand; He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath. - Psalm 110:4-5
When opposing forces collide, the one that prevails is the one that is superior. God will ultimately demonstrate His supremely exalted position. He has a specific day in mind, marked on His prophetic calendar, and that Day is approaching soon! God has promised to share His goodness with His people, but He will first remove EVERY factor that corrupts and distorts His blessings. He will judge, and when He does, it will be severe and thorough! The LORD has sworn, and He will not relent from this promise!
YAHWEH, the eternally self-existing and self-sustaining Creator and Controller of all things in heaven and earth, who has uniquely connected Himself to His creation through His covenants with Israel, makes a HUGE promise here! When God swears, it’s serious. He WILL judge! The Father has appointed His Son to sit at His right hand until the time He has appointed to pour out His wrath on His enemies. At that time, the Father will make His enemies the footstool of His Messiah. The Messiah will put His foot on the necks of His enemies, in heaven and earth, to fulfill the promise of Genesis 3:15, where “the serpent” will have his head crushed by the foot of “the Seed.” God has made up His mind, and He’s not going to change it!

“You [are] a priest forever…”
The scriptures refer to the Messiah in various ways in Psalm 110, but in Verse 4, they call the Messiah “a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” The Messiah serves as an intercessor. He stands between God’s people and the Father to establish a peaceful connection, in the same manner that Melchizedek did for Abraham in Genesis Chapter 14. He unites the faithful people of God with the Father through fellowship with Him, enabling them to worship Him properly. As a priest “forever,” the Messiah fulfills this role eternally, signifying that He is eternal, continuously forging a peaceful relationship between the Father and His people.
“He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath…”
However, the context of Psalm 110 shows that the peace of God comes directly from the Messiah’s judgments. He will administer God's righteousness, fulfilling King Melchizedek’s role through the wrath He pours out on behalf of the Father. The utter annihilation of God’s enemies – both demonic and human – will usher in the peace that God has promised. This is how God will prove that He is supremely exalted. This is how God’s servants will enjoy His unrestrained goodness. Those who oppose God and His people will be crushed, demonstrating God’s transcendence. Since Jesus is the Messiah, He will come again to finish the work He started. Therefore, it’s best to repent and submit to His authority NOW as His faithful servant rather than suffer the effects of His wrath when He judges. That judgment is coming soon…
Prayer for today
Our heavenly Father, thank You for warning us of Your coming judgment and for our Messiah's intercession to save us from Your wrath. Help us to demonstrate Your transcendence and goodness now by submitting to Your eternal purposes as servants while warning others of the wrath to come. Fill us with Your Spirit to carry out this work in Jesus’ name for Your glory. Amen.
