The Most High God - God's Goodness - God's Preeminence & Transcendence - Melchizedek
And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. - Revelation 21:24

Today, we see people and philosophies that contradict God filling the world. It seems that ungodly things are the most popular. Among these evils widely embraced is the philosophy that we, as people, are supreme. We’re in charge of our own lives. We can do anything. We've got this. The world is ours, and we can live our best lives however we want. All of these ideas are false…

“And the nations of those who are saved…”

The Bible concludes with a depiction of God’s incredible promise to create a new heaven, a new earth, and a new Jerusalem. The testimony in Revelation 21:22-27 outlines the glory of the New Jerusalem. Notice that the people are not centered on themselves; they aim to honor the city and the One who created and governs it. Why? Those who reside in this city become its citizens through Jesus Christ. This signifies that God allows the inhabitants and visitors of this city to be present, and the only ones permitted are “those who are saved.” Those who repent, believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, whose names are inscribed in the Lamb’s Book of Life, and escape the final judgment of Jesus are allowed to dwell there. No one else. Those who rebel against God by embracing the arrogant and self-righteous philosophies of the modern world will be excluded and cast into the lake of fire for eternity.

“Shall walk in its light…”

Those who choose to walk in the darkness of “self” will not be allowed to walk in the light of Jesus’ glory that illuminates this city. Why? The glory of the city comes from the glory of the Father and of Jesus Christ, so He will not permit those who spend a lifetime rejecting Him to dwell there. The scriptures teach that the Lamb of God is the light of this city. Only those who truly love Jesus, who are born again by the Holy Spirit and covered with the blood of the Lamb through faith in the testimony of His Word, receive the benefits of His glory. The brightness of Jesus’ glory will demonstrate His transcendence, goodness, and power, continually manifesting those attributes, and allowing the inhabitants of the city to be blessed by basking in His glory. Jesus’ blood sacrifice and the Holy Spirit connect us to His righteousness now. Later, the full manifestation of His supreme glory will keep us connected to the goodness of the Father and His dwelling place FOREVER!

“And the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it…”

In Jesus’ new creation, He will be the only one exalted. Jesus will judge the wicked, casting them into the lake of fire forever, and then He will create this new world in an instant by the power of His Word in the presence of His people. We’ll get to see Him create this place! Those who are saved from the lake of fire through faith in Jesus will come to know and understand the transcendence of our Savior! No one, not even the individuals Jesus appoints as leaders and rulers, will seek honor and glory for themselves ever again because we’ll all know that ONLY Jesus is worthy of it. Anyone with authority in heaven will be blessed to be fully subject to Jesus. No one will strive to elevate or praise themselves or anyone else, fully recognizing that Jesus is the God Most High, the source of all good things. Praising and worshiping Him will be the supreme standard of “good,” and no one will be dissatisfied with that standard.

Prayer for today

Our heavenly Father, thank You for this glimpse into Your eternal purposes and promises. Thank You for the work You have done to secure our place in Your holy city. Thank You for Your sacrifice and goodness in blessing us despite our sinful nature. Help us express our gratitude for this AMAZING blessing by serving You with this heavenly perspective; that we may seek to exalt and honor You instead of ourselves, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
