Day 11 - Heaven, Earth, And Everywhere Else

Thus says the LORD: “Heaven [is] My throne, and earth [is] My footstool. Where [is] the house that you will build Me? And where [is] the place of My rest? For all those [things] My hand has made, and all those [things] exist,” Says the LORD. “But on this [one] will I look: On [him who is] poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word.” - Isaiah 66:1-2
One of the difficulties in understanding God’s power is that we often try to compare it to things we know. However, this isn’t possible. While God has created certain elements to show His power, we often forget that His power is FAR greater than anything we see. The statements made by God in Isaiah 66:1-2 confirm this truth.
“Heaven [is] My throne…”
God began by saying that Heaven is His throne. No one can ascend to Heaven on their own. We can’t see it, and we don’t even know its location. Still, God is there. The spiritual realm is God’s domain, where He rules with complete power, authority, and glory. Therefore, God unquestionably governs everything on Earth. The universe is His footstool. This language shows God’s dominance over all aspects of the physical world. He is constantly in control of everything created through His Word. His feet resting on the material world demonstrate that God is present everywhere at all times, exercising power over everything both globally and personally.

“Where [is] the house that you will build Me…”
What can a person do to help, support, or increase God’s value? He made everything and controls everything. He’s everywhere at once, ensuring the proper function of all things according to His predetermined purposes. If we give something to God, He’s the One who created it. Are the sacrifices and gifts we offer to God truly that valuable? If we do something for God, He’s the One who empowers us to do it. Did the temple Solomon built make God any more glorious? Is there anything anyone can do that’s impressive or helpful to God, since He controls all things at both the physical and spiritual levels? God’s power allowed Him to create all things, and He continues to govern all things. It all came from Him, and it all belongs to Him.
“But on this [one] will I look…”
So then, what can we do to honor the LORD God Almighty, the One True Just Judge of heaven and earth? God doesn’t want us to engage in actions that merely appear impressive to others. He wants us to humble ourselves. He looks favorably upon those who are poor and contrite in spirit. Once again, this relates to brokenness and humility. He doesn’t want us to think more highly of ourselves than we should. He wants us to see ourselves in light of the truth of His testimony, rather than measuring our worth by worldly standards or comparing ourselves to others. He wants us to remember His power's supremacy, recognizing that we have no worth apart from Him. Do we truly believe what God says about Himself? If we do, our lives will reflect the repentance and humility that God longs for.
Prayer for today
Our heavenly Father, thank You for revealing the truth of Your power to us. Forgive us for the times we think too highly of ourselves. Help us remember the immeasurable greatness of Your power and glory, especially evident in Your death, resurrection, and the judgment work You will perform upon Your return. Enable us to walk in repentance, humility, and the brokenness that pleases You, just as we see in Jesus's testimony. Amen.
