The Almighty God - The Omnipresent God - The Lion of Judah
And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” - Revelation 19:6

People praise God for many different reasons. When God fulfills all His promises regarding His administration of judgments and blessings, the scriptures clearly show the reasons we will ultimately praise Him. According to the Bible, everyone in heaven will rejoice when Jesus displays His power as the devouring and conquering LION of the tribe of Judah. God's people will celebrate the fierce destruction of His enemies as He judges the world from heaven. It might seem strange to think that God’s people would cheer for violence, but perception can change opinions. When we view things from God's perspective, everyone will agree that all His actions are right and good, even His enemies.

“I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude…”

This part of scripture shows that the Apostle John heard a loud voice from a large crowd in heaven. This huge group was responding to earlier statements and events. What were they reacting to? They were celebrating God’s judgment against the spiritual forces that have influenced the world through false religion and idolatry. This spiritual influence is called “the great harlot.” Heaven rejoiced in God’s destruction of this harlot and all the evil she has spread throughout history. This judgment means the complete removal of human ideas that rely on worldly things to promote self-worship instead of worshiping God.

“As the sound of many waters…”

The crowd shouts passionately in unison, giving their words tremendous power. The text describes their praises as sounding like many waters. Imagine standing next to a giant waterfall, where you can feel the sound just as much as you hear it! The text emphasizes this by comparing their praises to mighty thunder. Picture a storm where the thunder claps nonstop, tearing through the sky and shaking everything around. The passion in their praise shows a shared belief in God’s power to completely destroy the spiritual influences that shape world culture, commerce, and self-worship.

“Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns…”

The crowd specifically emphasizes the omnipotence of God. Heaven celebrates His power to judge all evil in the world from His supreme throne. God’s authority extends from His throne to every part of the earth, leaving nowhere to escape or hide. His dominion also encompasses the spiritual realm, guaranteeing the destruction of demons that incite and enable sin. Heaven rejoices over the violent destruction of these demonic powers and the evil they promote, such as false religion, materialism, and a culture that encourages the worship of “self.” Heaven praises God as the LION of Judah, who devours everything opposed to the Father's righteous and holy purposes. If heaven praises God for these things, we should do the same, looking forward to their fulfillment.

Prayer for today

Our heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word, which reveals Your focus. Help us to rejoice in the things that bring You pleasure – the destruction of what opposes You. Help us look forward to the revelation of Your power through the coming judgments of Jesus Christ, which allow us to enjoy the benefits of our salvation for all eternity. Amen.
