But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”- Revelation 5:5
The world is full of problems. How will they be solved? Can people come up with a plan to fix the issues we face today? We can’t stop death or change the wicked hearts we all have, which are the root of all our problems. The world needs a miracle! The Revelation of Jesus Christ explains God’s plan to bring about that miracle. He sees the problems and knows exactly how to fix them. He will bring justice and peace to this world, but not without confronting darkness and all kinds of sin. God hates evil and will soon respond with His wrath. He will judge the world fiercely, like a lion tearing into its prey. Jesus is that lion, and Revelation shows how He will prove that His power is supreme to fulfill this promise of scripture.
“Do not weep…”
In Revelation 5:5, the Apostle John was told not to weep. Why was he crying? He saw the world from a heavenly perspective, observing its misery and realizing no individual or group could fix it. Deep down, we all know that’s true. However, John was told, “Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah.” When we eventually conclude that there is no hope for this world as long as people try to fix it, behold, Jesus! To find hope for this world, we must look to Jesus, especially as the LION of the tribe of Judah. He has the power and authority to restore our world and is preparing to do so, but He must fulfill His promise to judge sin. He will VIOLENTLY purge the world of evil when He pours out His wrath.

“Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah…”
The LION of Judah has all power and authority as the KING of kings. The reference to David shows that Jesus’ judgments align with the Father’s predetermined purposes, as declared in all the prophecies of the Messiah. Jesus is the Messiah. He is the descendant of David, who will establish God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Jesus is the Root of David, meaning His authority and power existed long before David and were the source of David’s strength. Jesus is the LION and the KING, who holds all power and authority to judge and bless.
“Has prevailed to open the scroll…”
Jesus’ victory over death publicly affirms His power and authority. The scroll represents the title deed to the Earth and the universe. Only Jesus has the authority to open it. The scroll’s contents reveal the Father’s plans to judge the world, as outlined throughout the Book of Revelation. Only Jesus has the power to execute these judgments perfectly on behalf of the Father because He is God. He will remove evil from the world before bringing His eternal peace and blessings. His possession of the scroll shows that He has both the power and the right to do so. Current events suggest that He will begin this work soon…
Prayer for today
Our heavenly Father, we are thankful to know that You have a plan to solve the problems of our world. We trust that You will act according to Your Word to judge the evil and corruption within it. Help us live with hope, trusting in Your faithfulness to judge Your enemies in this world while also being ambassadors of peace, urging the world to repentance until You return, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
