Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You [are] God. - Psalm 84:11
Why should we pay attention to the content of the Bible? The Bible is THE WORD OF GOD! God is YAHWEH – the eternally self-existing and self-sustaining glorious Creator of all things. The scriptures are the divinely inspired expressions of His heart, mind, and purpose, given through His Spirit.
“Before the mountains were brought forth…”
As Creator, God came before all things. He existed in Himself before everything we see in the universe. As YAHWEH, God has no beginning or end. That’s what the name “YAHWEH” reminds us of every time it’s used in scripture. Therefore, the things He says about the world, people, life, and death must be true. Who else, except God, has been around long enough to know the truth of all these matters? When the Holy Spirit directed Moses’ hand to pen the words written in Psalm 90:2, that’s the point He was trying to make.
God knows the truth about all things as the Creator. He understands how it all works and why it all exists. He knows how everything resolves and all the details in between. That’s what makes Him God. Who else can bring forth mountains like the ones we see in our world? Who else can create a planet and make it function like Earth does? God knows how to do these things. He still possesses that power and wisdom. That will never change! This is why He’s God.
“Even from everlasting to everlasting, You [are] God…”
This is also why we should humbly seek to know Him, His glory, and wisdom. Where else can we access wisdom and ability like what God provides? Has the world’s wisdom sufficiently helped to solve global and individual problems? Has human progress and ability satisfied our souls, produced eternal life, and delivered everlasting pleasure? Only God can accomplish these things. He has done so since before our universe was created. He has given us the testimony of His Word to show that He desires to share the benefits of His attributes with us if we humble ourselves, confess the truth of His Word, and seek Him for who He is through praise and gratitude.
Prayer for today
Our heavenly Father, we confess that You alone are God. We are not. You are the One who formed the heavens and our universe by the power of Your Word. You are the One who holds all things together. You are the One who establishes truth and goodness. You are the One who sets the standards for what is right. Help establish our minds in this truth. Keep us from overvaluing the ideas and works of people, no matter how impressive they may seem. Fill us with Your Spirit so that as we go about our days facing difficulties and darkness, the hope You give us will be infectious to those around us for Your glory. We pray these things in the name of the ONLY One able to provide this hope – Jesus Christ. Amen.
