The Creator - The Light of the World - The God of Israel

And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy [is] the LORD of hosts; the whole earth [is] full of His glory!” - Isaiah 6:3

The sun is arguably the brightest object we can relate to. If you look directly at it, you quickly realize how intense that light is! It provides illumination for half the planet every day. Yet, as bright as the sun is, it’s still relatively weak. Think about it. If clouds are present, the sun and its light are obscured. Yes, the sun can light up half our planet, but it’s not strong enough to illuminate the entire globe, and numerous factors can block that light.

“Holy, holy, holy [is] the LORD of hosts…”

Scripture teaches us that the universe is filled with God’s glory and will be even more so in the end! God’s glory is so transcendent that the angels of heaven constantly proclaim His holiness. God’s holiness captures His uniqueness. It signifies how God is separate from everything He created, including the angels in heaven. This does not mean that God is disconnected from His creation. His Spirit dwells in the hearts of His people today. God’s holiness and separateness teach us that God is not like anything He has made. He is not affected by the same issues that trouble us, particularly weakness, confusion, sin, darkness, decay, and death.

In Job Chapter 4, we learn that even the angels of heaven depend on God’s mercy to exist and function. How do we know that’s true? Didn’t one-third of the angels rebel against God to serve the devil’s purposes? EVERYTHING that God created relies on Him for mercy to exist and function – everything except for God. That’s what makes Him holy, unique, separate, and transcendentally glorious! That’s why the angels in heaven praise God, specifically referring to His holiness. Who else can be intimately engaged with corrupted things while ALSO remaining pure and completely separate from corruption and the issues that cause it?

“The whole earth [is] full of His glory…”

Even though the world is filled with darkness, decay, and corruption, aren’t good things still happening? Aren’t people still being exposed to the truth of God’s glory and being born again? Isn’t there still the promise of Jesus’ 2nd Coming, when He promises to completely remove darkness by manifesting the full extent of His glory? When we understand who God is, as it is written in His Word, it becomes a little easier to recognize God’s glory in this world, even though it might be hard to see for the time being…

Prayer for today

Our heavenly Father, we’re grateful for the testimony of Your Word that reveals the truth about who You are. We confess that You are truly holy. Your Word instructs us to be holy because You are. Jesus, You’ve cleansed us from sin and freed us from the controlling influences of our flesh. Help us today, by the power of Your Spirit, to walk by Your holiness. Assist us in denying ourselves, and when circumstances tempt us to act unrighteously, grant us Your strength to resist our natural inclinations. We ask these things for our benefit, but primarily for Your glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.
