The Creator - The Light of the World - The God of Israel

And who can proclaim as I do? Then let him declare it and set it in order for Me, since I appointed the ancient people. And the things that are coming and shall come, let them show these to them. - Isaiah 44:7

As the Creator, God is in control of all things. One of the first things that God created was time. When God revealed His glory as “light” on the first day, He separated the light from the dark and declared a “day.” On the fourth day, God created the sun, moon, and stars to provide tools for people to keep track of the time that He made. Before God created people or the tools we use to track intervals, stages, and seasons of life, He established time. He did so by the power and authority of His Word!

“And who can proclaim as I do…”

Who can do things like that? Who can speak and make time, literally? Who can grasp time like a common tool and use it as God does? Who has proven to know the future like God? Does anyone else show the ability to influence the future for their purpose, as the scriptures testify of God? This is why God spoke the way He did in Isaiah 44:7. Who else has been able to declare the fate of individuals, families, nations, and world empires as God has? If there is anyone who can speak with that kind of authority and certainty, they would rival God. God has no rival.

“Since I appointed the ancient people…”

Since God controls time, He governs all factors within it, including people subject to time: past, present, and future. God is eternally self-existing and self-sustaining. He exists outside of time. Time is an instrument in His hand. No one else possesses this depth of control. This is why the scriptures urge the people of God to trust Him. Who else makes these kinds of declarations and proves them true, like God? Who else has demonstrated themselves trustworthy to this degree concerning the weighty matters of the soul?

Prayer for today

Our heavenly Father, we look to the scriptures and our current circumstances, confirming that Your Word is true. Our present times reflect the Word You proclaimed in the past. Help us to trust You with our future. We don’t know what our future circumstances will be like in this life. Nevertheless, You’ve proven that Your purposes for us transcend this life. You’ve shown that Your control of the future extends all the way into eternity! We struggle to stick to our schedules due to unforeseen variables and uncontrollable factors in life. We’re grateful to know that You do not wrestle with those issues. We understand that everything You’ve appointed for us will happen right on time – Your time, which You hold in Your hands. Let us govern our attitudes with hope and joy through this understanding. In Jesus’ name, we ask and pray these things. Amen.
