The Creator - The Light of the World - The God of Israel

In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. - John 1:4

Giving a gift requires us to have the means to give first. If you want to give someone a dollar, you need to have a dollar to give. This principle illustrates that life cannot exist unless someone else is alive to provide life in the first place. There must be a source of life that can share its essence.

“In Him was life…”

All life begins with God. God possessed life first and has taken it upon Himself to share the life He has. He is eternally self-existing and self-sustaining. He is the First and the Last. Therefore, when God created the heavens and the earth and gave life to all living creatures, He imparted His own essence. The Bible testifies that God accomplished this by the power of His Word. It also attests that the Word of God became incarnate. The Word of God is Jesus Christ, the channel through which God created all things and gave life.

“The life was the light of men…”

In John 1:4, the Bible describes the quality of God’s life as “light.” This refers to God’s glory, wisdom, provision, and protection. God gives us physical life and offers these additional benefits to equip us while we are alive. This quality of life uniquely comes from Jesus because He is God. The apostle John was an eyewitness to this truth. He saw Jesus with his own eyes and confirmed who Jesus was. John wrote that the light of God’s glory is in Jesus because he witnessed proof that Jesus has authority over all life. John was a witness to Jesus as the source and sustainer of life. John saw clear and tangible evidence that God’s benefits and blessings are distributed exclusively through Jesus because Jesus IS God – the Light of the world!

Prayer for today

Our heavenly Father, we acknowledge the truth: You manifested Your glory and attributes through the miraculous incarnation of Jesus Christ. Help us live according to this truth like the apostles who came before us. Help us testify to the truth, even when it’s hard to understand or communicate. Help us to rely on Your Holy Spirit as the apostle John did, sharing the truth that sets souls free from the bondage of sin, death, and hell. We pray these things in Jesus’ name, to live in His likeness, for His glory. Amen!
