Day 22 - Life Comes From Jesus

“For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself…” - John 5:26
Why is Jesus the ONLY way to gain eternal life? In John 5:26, Jesus spoke in the third person, referring to Himself as “the Son.” In the original Greek manuscripts, the text uses the word “Huios.” This word DOES NOT refer to origin; it describes a position. What does that mean exactly? The Greek word “huios” is where we get our English word for “heir.” This term describes someone’s position based on the receipt of an inheritance. An “heir” is determined by the authority and declaration of the one giving the inheritance. That’s it.
“For as the Father has life in Himself…”
This is Jesus’ relationship with “the Father.” Jesus was not “born” from God as we would think of natural offspring in human terms. Jesus existed before He was “born” from Mary. Jesus lived in heaven first, sharing the same quality of life as God the Father. The Father “granted” life to Jesus in the same way someone would “grant” an inheritance to an heir, but that doesn’t have anything to do with Jesus’ age. The one giving the inheritance decides for themselves how to distribute their possessions. Likewise, the Father determined how He would distribute the quality of life that He uniquely possesses.
God is eternally self-existing and self-sustaining as the Creator and Controller of all things. God chose to reveal the glory of His unique attributes for the benefit of His creation through the terms of eternally unchanging covenants He made with the nation of Israel. Jesus is the physical manifestation and fulfillment of God’s declarations and promises. What did Jesus inherit as “the Son?” He inherited EVERYTHING that God is, as a real human being, from the position of Israel’s throne. Jesus “inherited” the Father’s nature, character, attributes, possessions, purposes, and promises. When Jesus referred to Himself as “the Son of God,” He described Himself as God in the flesh!
“He has granted the Son to have life in Himself…”
The eternally pure and good quality of life we all covet comes uniquely from God. The Father decided to distribute the benefits of His attributes through His Son as “the Heir,” ensuring that ALL people must approach Jesus to gain access to those benefits. We either believe this is true or we don’t. If we believe, we already have access to the life that God gives!
Prayer for today
Our heavenly Father, we recognize the truth revealed in Your Word about You and Your glory. You took on flesh to address the issues that sin creates on our behalf. Jesus, we affirm the truth of what the scriptures teach, based on Your testimony: You are God, and there is no other. Grant us the boldness to share this simple truth with those who need to hear it, giving them the opportunity to experience the quality of life that only comes from You through the supernatural faith that follows hearing Your Word. Amen!
