Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. - Hebrews 7:25
One of the biggest challenges for many people is finishing a project. They’re easy to start but hard to complete as originally envisioned. Over time, various factors can interrupt our ability to finish what we’ve begun. Things change, like shifts in our schedules, health, the help we need, or our funding. Sometimes, we simply underestimate how much effort is required before we start. Sometimes we just lose interest. That’s why we celebrate finishing projects; the bigger the project, the greater the achievement, and the bigger the celebration!
“He is also able to save to the uttermost…”
If we apply that concept to the work Jesus did to fulfill the promise of eternal life, it should lead us to rejoice with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind! Hebrews 7:25 explains that Jesus completed a task that no one else could. The full context of this passage shows that Jesus demonstrated His everlasting authority and power as an “intercessor” through His death and resurrection. Jesus’ work stood in direct contrast to the service of all the priests who came before Him. They were also intercessors appointed by God to connect His people to Himself through sacrifices. However, the priests who served in this role could not complete the work and served only for a limited time. When they died, their service ended, leaving the work unfinished. Jesus, on the other hand, died and was resurrected, so His service continues.

So, Jesus is able to save because He has a power that the priests didn’t have. Jesus’ power is greater because He can truly save souls from sin, death, and hell. The text shows that He COMPLETELY saves, while the priests before Him only temporarily covered people's sins through their sacrifices. Jesus’ sacrifice was made once for everyone and is enough to settle the debt of all sin—past, present, and future—removing it forever. That is why Jesus said, “It is finished,” before He died on the cross. He completed the task that many priests were unable to do.
“Those who come to God through Him…”
The only way to benefit from Jesus’ power is to trust in the truth of these claims. Do we believe that He died but now lives forever at the right hand of the Father to meet our spiritual needs eternally? Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension show that He alone has the power to stand between us and the Father, bridging the gap caused by our sin. He gives us peace with the Father and makes us heirs of His eternally unconditional promises. The power of His death, resurrection, and ascension qualifies Him to help us fulfill His purposes before we enter His presence. He never stops His work, and the power He showed in His own testimony proves that He never fails. Since Jesus achieved this great work, our celebration of Him should be unmatched!
Prayer for today
Our heavenly Father, thank You for revealing the greatness of Your power this way. Despite all the efforts people have made to do good deeds to please You, they have all fallen short. The work was never enough. We trust in Jesus' work, as He alone has fulfilled what is needed to connect us to You. Help us live with humility, gratitude, and joy to show our love for the work You’ve done on our behalf, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
