When Christ [who is] our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. - Colossians 3:4
Our lives as believers are not as they seem. We probably bear a strong physical resemblance to the person we were before we were saved. We may have different habits as a result of the good things God has taught us while walking in the Spirit, but many aspects of us remain unchanged. After all, we’re still human. We all continue to struggle with the imperfections of our flesh. We all live in a sin-filled world that presents various challenges. This is not entirely true of our spiritual essence.
“When Christ [who is] our life appears…”
As believers in the identity and testimony of Jesus Christ, we are “born again” by the Holy Spirit of Almighty God, who created all things in heaven and on earth. We are new creations in His eyes. We are being conformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ, the “Light of the world.” While we breathe oxygen and pump blood to stay alive now, the true essence of our lives is found in Jesus. Jesus is God in flesh, so He is eternally glorious by nature. Since we are being conformed to His image, we cannot even imagine the quality of life that awaits us. We cannot fully understand the glorious work Jesus did on our behalf to save us, let alone the full measure of His eternal blessings!

Some people say, “God made me this way.” That might be true, but according to the Bible, God doesn’t intend to leave any of His children in the condition they were born in. His purpose is to change us. So, God sees us in our finished state, even though we can’t see that for ourselves. After all, who can stop Him from completing the work He promised to do?
“Then you also will appear with Him in glory…”
According to God’s Word, this is who we REALLY are because of Him. When Jesus returns to fulfill the Father’s promises to us, we will outwardly resemble the spiritual nature He has created for us as YAHWEH. If He can create the universe by revealing His glory as light, then Jesus can transform us into the likeness of His glory as “the LIGHT of the world!” When Jesus returns, the full revelation of His glory as “the LIGHT of the world” will be sufficient to remove all impurities so that our outward condition matches the finished product that He sees inwardly in us now.
Prayer for today
Our heavenly Father, thank You for the promise of completely transforming our nature and character. We recognize that our current condition has flaws. We’re grateful for Your faithfulness to Your Word and Your promise to change us both internally and externally. Thank You for a hope that transcends this life: The cleansing power of Jesus’ blood that everyone will see just as You see it now. Help us find encouragement in this reminder, knowing that the revelation of Your glory guarantees these benefits. Let that encouragement shape our attitudes as we go about our business today. We pray these things in the glory of Jesus’ name. Amen.
