The Triune God - The Incomprehensible Majesty of God - The LOVE of God

In whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. - Ephesians 2:22

The bond and love that can develop within a family is an incredible dynamic. It’s amazing to see how individuals who are so different can unite and support one another. It’s interesting to observe how diverse families and siblings can be, despite sharing the same DNA. When family dynamics function smoothly, they can create a joy that is unlike any other experience in life.

Still, despite all the benefits that a strong family can provide, it doesn’t compare to the relationships God creates among His people, which is great news for those from “imperfect” family dynamics. In Ephesians 2:22, the Apostle Paul discusses God’s work to unite His people with a shared perspective and purpose. Paul states that God’s people are continually being built together. He addresses those who repent and believe in the testimony of God’s Word regarding the identity and work of Jesus Christ. Paul writes to those who are “born again” through the Holy Spirit. Those are the individuals being “built together.”

“You also are being built together…”

The language portrays God engaging in construction work, as if He were using various materials to create a single structure—His dwelling place! Just before this verse, Paul described this “dwelling place” as “the household of God” and “a holy temple in the LORD.” The point is that God unites His people, connecting us all to Himself for His pleasure and glory.

“A dwelling place of God in the Spirit…”

How does He do it? The indwelling of the Holy Spirit serves as a bonding agent for every true Christian. The Holy Spirit brings together the true people of God by conforming us to the image of Jesus Christ. We are all uniquely individual, equipped with different callings, purposes, and spiritual gifts, yet each one complements the others for a singular purpose.

This means that every true child of God has a purpose. God desires to use each individual as part of His collective work that connects us to Him. Each of us has a unique role, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit empowers us to fulfill that role. God doesn’t prioritize talents, resources, influence, intelligence, or personal experience. His Spirit links us to Jesus Christ and His power to bring dead souls to life. His Spirit also connects us to support one another in various ways. When we allow the Spirit to do His work, the omnipresence of Almighty God unites all kinds of people for a single cause that transcends everything in this life. The more connected we are to God through His Spirit, the more connected we become to each other, and vice versa. That creates a bond that brings joy, surpassing understanding, but is as real as anything else. No other family dynamics can match a love like this.

Prayer for today

Our heavenly Father, thank You for the work of Your Son and the indwelling of Your Spirit, who gives us life and purpose. Help us walk in Your Spirit so that we may be connected to You, Your people, and Your eternal and spiritual purposes. We ask these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.
