When the Most High divided their inheritance to the nations, when He separated the sons of Adam, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the children of Israel. - Deuteronomy 32:8
Many individuals attempt to demonstrate their worth and power by defying rules and structures to pursue their desires. In fact, the Bible indicates that the primary issue with humanity stems from this one factor. As individuals, we believe we know better than God. We think we can live our lives in rebellion against God, redefining the concept of “good” as if there are no consequences. This mindset was what introduced sin into the world in the Garden of Eden. God has been addressing this issue for a long time, and He excels at proving us all wrong.
“The Most High divided their inheritance to the nations…”
When Moses delivered his farewell address to Israel, he included the testimony from Deuteronomy Chapter 32, known as “The Song of Moses.” This song is rich with history, prophetic claims, and praises to God for His goodness. In Deuteronomy 32:8, Moses refers to a time when God distributed an inheritance to the nations. Here, Moses illustrates God’s sovereign control over all things. Psalm 24:1 clearly states that the earth and everything in it belong to God. He determines who manages His land and for what purposes. Nations exist in their respective regions because God establishes all of these things. The nation of Israel serves as proof. He initiated His work to establish Israel as a nation in Genesis 12:1-3 through His covenant with Abraham. He set the boundaries for Israel as detailed in Genesis 15:18-21.

“He separated the sons of Adam…”
Moses described a time when God “separated the sons of Adam.” This refers to when God scattered the nations in Genesis Chapter 11. The world sought to rebel against God, trying to exalt and worship “self” by building the Tower of Babel. God easily and swiftly dismantled that effort and scattered the people according to His original purpose by confusing the language. Where the people believed they could live as they wished, how they desired, exalting themselves as gods without consequences, the God Most High proved they were mistaken.
“He set the boundaries of the peoples…”
God did similar work when He led His people into the Promised Land, as recorded in the Book of Joshua. Moses wrote about certain things in this song, anticipating that God would demonstrate His goodness to fulfill His promise regarding Israel and the land, regardless of who was already living there. God promised to make Israel a great nation, dwelling safely within specific boundaries, and that through them, He would bless the rest of the world, referring to the coming Messiah. Since the fulfillment of Israel’s greatness in the land is tied to God’s promise of the Messiah, He proves His goodness every day His people are established in the land, validating His faithfulness to bless the world despite our tendency to rebel against Him.
Prayer for today
Our heavenly Father, thank You for demonstrating the extent of Your goodness through the testimony of Israel. You have shown throughout the ages that You control all things, and as long as we see Israel in the land, You prove Yourself true. You are patient in Your dealings with us, even though we constantly doubt and rebel. The faithfulness You show to Israel through the land is a testament to the future revelation of Your goodness through Israel’s Messiah, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Forgive our rebellion. Help us trust in Your goodness in Jesus’ name. Amen.
