The Creator - The Light of the World - The God of Israel

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained… - Psalm 8:3

How can anyone see God’s glory today? The Bible teaches that one of the ways God physically manifests His glory is through “light.” We relate to natural light by observing the sun, moon, and stars. Therefore, whether you have access to a Bible or not, anyone can look up and witness a version of God’s glory in the sky. The issue is, according to the Bible, God’s essence as light was revealed four days before He created those celestial bodies. Think about that…

“When I consider Your heavens…”

Scripture shows that God created the sun, moon, and stars by the power of His Word. He spoke them into existence! They belong to Him as the byproduct of His own Word. However, God didn’t make these things so they could randomly expand to accidentally gain place and purpose through billions of years of “chance.” The testimony of Psalm 8:3 is clear. God “ordained” the sun, moon, and stars. He prepared the sun, moon, and stars. He established them. He made them ready for the purpose He appointed and placed them where He wanted so they could fulfill that purpose. God arranged the universe in an orderly fashion with His fingers! Consider the size and scope of the universe and the things we can see in it. It all fits between God’s fingers like an appetizer would fit between ours. God moved stars, planets, and galaxies like we would move a French fry to our mouths. God did all of this in a single 24-hour night-day cycle!

“The work of Your fingers…”

The brightness and heat of the sun exist because God’s glory existed first and equipped the sun as we know it today. The beautiful reflection of the moon’s glow exists because of God’s glory. The sky is filled with untold numbers of stars, which are beyond human comprehension, because of God, according to His eternally self-existing and self-sustaining nature. There are countless galaxies with complex features, created by the infinite God as a physical demonstration of His greatness and glory. We continue to spend money to explore space, yet we discover how little we truly know about it. It just keeps expanding. What does that say about God, who created all these wonders by the power of His glory?

Prayer for today

Our heavenly Father, we acknowledge that Your greatness and glory exceed our understanding to an immeasurable degree. Who are we that You are mindful of us? LORD, we are thankful knowing You are indeed attentive to the human race because You are a MERCIFUL Creator. We are grateful knowing that even though Your greatness is incomprehensible, Your concern for every individual is such that You took the form of flesh as Jesus Christ to purify our souls and connect with us, even to the extent that You would leave ninety-nine sheep to save one that is lost, knowing the number of hairs on our heads. Help us to make the greatness of Your name known by serving Your eternal and spiritual purposes in the name and likeness of Jesus Christ by walking in Your Spirit. Amen.
