The Everlasting God - The Word of God - The Unchanging Greatness Of God
His eyes [were] like a flame of fire, and on His head [were] many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He [was] clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. - Revelation 19:12-13

One of the most powerful passages showing God's eternal greatness is the testimony of Jesus’ Second Coming, as recorded in Revelation Chapter 19. When God created the universe, He did so through the power of His Word. He spoke, and everything was formed and made perfectly functional. All order, structure, interaction, and life we see in the world today come from God’s declaration!

“His eyes [were] like a flame of fire…”

Looking at the testimony of Jesus’ Second Coming, we see the same qualities of wisdom, power, and control. Jesus’ eyes are described as flames of fire, symbolizing His resolve to judge as a consuming fire, cleansing His creation of sinners who persistently reject Him. Jesus is shown wearing many crowns, symbolizing the supremacy of His authority. He has a name that no one knows except Himself, meaning Jesus is the only one truly familiar with His character, nature, attributes, integrity, purposes, and promises. There is no one like Jesus. The Father did not appoint anyone else to fulfill His eternal, unconditional covenants, which include judging the world in righteousness. No one else can relate to Jesus in this way.

“He had a name written…”

Although no one can fully understand who Jesus is, we are told His name is “The Word of God.” Jesus is the true revelation of God. He is the way the Father’s plans and promises come to pass. Why is His robe dipped in blood? The power that God demonstrated to create life initially will be displayed again, but this time to take life during His judgment. God has promised to judge sin, a message repeated throughout the scriptures. Rejecting Jesus offends Him, and soon He will respond strongly. The world will gather a large army to fight against Jesus and His people at that time. Jesus will not come as a gentle Lamb; He will be the conquering Lion. He will not need to fight; He will simply speak.

“He [was] clothed with a robe dipped in blood…”

When God spoke in the beginning, He demonstrated His greatness by creating all things from nothing. When Jesus identified Himself in the garden during His arrest, simply saying, “I AM HE,” hundreds of soldiers fell to the ground at once. When Jesus confronts His enemies at His Second Coming, their bodies will explode! His white robe will be stained red by blood splatter. The greatness of God remains constant over time. The power of God’s Word remains unchanged, even when it is expressed differently. One day, Jesus will soon show this to the entire world.

Prayer for today

Our Heavenly Father, thank You for the testimony of Your Word and the reassurance You give that You are unchanging. Your promise to offer salvation was made from the beginning and fulfilled as written. Likewise, Your promise to judge unrighteousness in this world was also made long ago. Just the same, Your Word remains unchanged, and it will be fulfilled as it is written. Equip us as servants dedicated to warning others about the unchanging greatness of Your Word and that Jesus will return soon to use that power to judge the world. We ask for boldness to speak these truths in Jesus’ name. Amen.
