“Indeed before the day [was], I [am] He; and [there is] no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who will reverse it?” - Isaiah 43:13

The Bible teaches that nothing can separate God’s people from His love. How do we know this is true? The scriptures are filled with examples that show the strength of God’s hold. The testimony in Isaiah Chapter 43 provides powerful points that demonstrate God’s unmatched power. This excerpt from Verse 13 offers fascinating insights that help us understand just how strong God and His grip truly are.

“Before the day [was], I [am] He…”

One of the most fundamental aspects of God is also one of the hardest to understand. God existed before everything else. He is “the Existing One.” He simply exists, meaning He has always existed without a creator because He is eternally self-existing and self-sustaining. God clearly said in Isaiah 43:13, “Indeed before the day was, I am He.” Before days existed, God was already present. God has a power that goes beyond time itself. His power and ability exceed days because He had all the power needed to create days and continues to hold all the power necessary to sustain them! No one in heaven or on earth compares to God in this way.

“There [is] no one who can deliver out of My hand…”

God also stated, “There is no one who can deliver out of My hand.” The full context of this statement involves God encouraging Israel as their Redeemer. God is the Holy One of Israel – the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – because of the eternally unconditional covenants He made with them. God took Israel as His own possession. Since God’s power transcends time and space, who can take Israel from His grip? The testimony of Revelation Chapter 12 shows that the devil has been trying to destroy Israel and separate them from God since the beginning, knowing that the Savior would come from Israel. He has failed. Since God’s grip is eternal, it doesn’t change in strength or intensity. He overpowers everything. Even though the world has opposed Israel for so long, motivated by Satan himself, Israel remains in God’s possession!

“I work, and who will reverse it…”

God reaffirmed His strength by posing a question: Who can reverse His work? The broader context here focuses on Israel. Who has managed to undo what God has done for them? God promised they would become a great nation. Many nations have tried to destroy them completely. Have they succeeded? God assured that Israel would receive a special land inheritance. They have been removed from the land many times. Where are they now? God promised that the Messiah would come as a descendant of Israel to offer forgiveness for sins. Jesus came at the right time and fulfilled every part of scripture required of Him, despite all the factors that discouraged and opposed God’s purposes. Since this is true about God’s promises to Israel and His plan to bring His Savior through them, this strength remains constant for all of God’s people everywhere, at all times.

Prayer for today

Our heavenly Father, thank You for the abundant proof of Your power in keeping us within the fold of Your favor. Your ability to create affirms Your authority to judge all that opposes Your purposes for creation. Knowing that no one can stand against You, help us submit to Your purposes centered on fulfilling Your covenants with Israel and the world through the second coming of Jesus Christ. Amen.
