Day 10 - When God "Swore To God"

I have sworn by Myself; the word has gone out of My mouth [in] righteousness, and shall not return, that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall take an oath. - Isaiah 45:23
Many people foolishly say, “I swear to God.” This disrespects God’s name. In God’s eyes, when people speak this way, they use His greatness to hide their doubts about their integrity. They lessen God’s greatness to cover up the flaws others see in them. We should not lower God to our level in this way! It’s extremely offensive to God…
This means that if God swears by Himself, as He did in Isaiah 45:23, He is making a powerful statement! God’s greatness is so supreme that He swore upon Himself to emphasize a key point that is repeated over ten times in Isaiah Chapter 45. The LORD is God—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—and there is no other. There is no other creator. No one else has sovereign authority over all things or possesses God’s wisdom and power to do what He does through His Word. The chapter starts with God naming a servant He would raise up to carry out His work in Israel. He identified Cyrus, the Medo-Persian king, nearly a hundred years before Cyrus was born! Who else can do that?

“I have sworn by Myself…”
When God says that He “swears by Himself,” He’s making a powerful statement. God is backing a guarantee by the value of His own power and integrity, which shapes all of human history! God confirms His Word based on His eternally unchanging greatness, which determines the rise and fall of kings and empires long before they come into being. God teaches that the value of His Word is as certain as the work He’s done to create the heavens and the earth, sustain life, establish the nation of Israel, and control world events to advance His plans with Israel, leading up to the revelation of their Messiah – Jesus Christ. No words hold more value!
“To Me every knee shall bow…”
What did God say that was so profound? Every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess. A day will come when God’s eternally unchanging righteousness causes every person—past, present, and future—to humble themselves, acknowledging the greatness of His righteousness. Later, this verse is quoted in Philippians 2:10, referring to Jesus Himself. Every knee will bow to Jesus, and every tongue will confess His righteousness as God in flesh. The Spirit of God saves people from sin, death, and hell, reviving dead souls to submit to God now as His children. Later, Jesus will judge those who reject His offer of salvation, forcing them to submit in shame and condemnation. Regardless, the eternal greatness of God will be shown openly and powerfully, for sure!
Prayer for today
Our heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word, which shows the supremacy of Your greatness. Everything You say is right. Every word You speak serves a good purpose and will be perfectly fulfilled as written. Thank You that Your Word became flesh to save us from sin, death, and hell. Thank You for demonstrating Your greatness by equipping us as willing servants who now submit to Your glory. Use us to warn others about the consequences of rejecting You, so they may repent now rather than be forced to submit later in the shame of condemnation. Help us serve Your eternally unchanging purposes to save souls in Jesus’ name. Amen!
