Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently; He shall be exalted and extolled and be very high. - Isaiah 52:13
History shows that Israel has faced some exceptional tragedies throughout its past. The way Israel is persecuted and marginalized in the world today reflects that its difficulties persist. Yet God promised to pour out the full measure of His goodness upon them. He promised to make them a great nation and to establish them with a great land inheritance. He pledged to bless the entire world through them, specifically through their Messiah. This implies that God MUST continue to work with Israel to restore and bless the rest of humanity. How can we be so assured that God will fulfill this promise? We simply need to look at the work that began when the Father’s Servant came into the world 2,000 years ago.
“Behold…”
The testimony of Isaiah 52:13 begins with the phrase, “Behold, My Servant.” When Isaiah wrote this prophecy, the nation was suffering greatly. The Father aimed to encourage His people and assure them that He was not forsaking His covenants with them. God reminded His people that He would forgive, cleanse, restore, and bless them according to His eternally unconditional covenants. The Father pointed to His “Servant” to provide that encouragement. We find God’s encouragement when we look to God’s Servant – the Messiah of Israel.

“My Servant shall deal prudently…”
Why? God’s Servant will be careful in His work to ensure the perfect and prosperous fulfillment of ALL the Father’s promises. The Father’s Messiah will possess perfect wisdom to make all the right decisions that lead to the complete realization of the Father’s eternally unconditional promises to Israel and the world. Consequently, the Servant of the LORD will be exalted. He will be lifted high because of the work He does to fulfill the Father’s promises and the manner in which He accomplishes this. The Servant of the LORD will be extolled. The Father Himself will uphold His Servant because of the perfection of His work in fulfilling every covenant flawlessly. The work of the Servant will elevate Him to a status as highly exalted as the Father Himself!
“He shall be exalted…”
How is that possible? The remainder of Isaiah Chapter 52 describes the crucifixion of Jesus. This is how God’s goodness is shown. This is how the Father can forgive, cleanse, restore, and bless His people. This is how His eternally unconditional covenants are fulfilled. Being lifted up on a tree through His crucifixion is what supremely exalts Jesus above all creation! He was beaten severely and suffered more than any man. His blood transcends the world to cleanse Israel and sprinkle many nations around the globe for their cleansing as well. Only Jesus can exalt Himself through His atoning sacrifice because He is the God Most High!
Prayer for today
Our heavenly Father, thank You for this good news. We know that none are righteous. Still, Your Word promises to forgive, cleanse, and restore corrupted human hearts, saving us from Your coming wrath and blessing us with eternal life. Jesus, the work You’ve completed thus far as Israel’s Messiah should assure our hearts that this hope is real. Your promises are true. Death could not hold You down. Help us to find comfort in the certainty of Your Word, remembering the ways You’ve already demonstrated Your transcendence and goodness. We ask these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.
