Then he said, “Hear now, O house of David! [Is it] a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” - Isaiah 7:13-14
Many people seek signs and miracles from God, yet they often overlook the ones God has already provided. Consider these common questions:
What proof do we have that God will fulfill His promises? What evidence does God provide that He’ll help us when times get tough? How can we know eternal life is real? What assurance do we have that God is truly willing to forgive EVERY offense we’ve committed against Him? How can we be sure that God is who He said He is?
“The Lord Himself will give you a sign…”
God has given us many signs, but one in particular speaks volumes about the incomprehensible nature of His integrity. He provided tangible, observable, historically documented evidence of His ability and willingness to do EVERYTHING He said. This proof should assure our hearts that His love is greater than we’ll ever know and that He is exactly who He said He is, even if we don’t understand that.

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son…”
According to the prophetic promise of Isaiah 7:13-14, the virgin birth of Jesus serves as evidence of God’s identity, purpose, promise, and faithfulness to remain committed to His Word, regardless of circumstances. Who makes predictions about the specific birth circumstances of others, as the Father did of His Son? Isaiah’s prophecy was recorded 700 years before the incarnation of Jesus. Who can bring human life into existence without relying on the common scientific principles of conception? How did the Holy Spirit generate a holy life from a human womb? These truths demonstrate that Jesus is God in the flesh. What other human beings have entered this world in such a miraculous way?
The virgin birth is difficult to understand, but all of God's eternal and spiritually centered works are challenging to comprehend! No one else can perform these acts and reveal themselves in various ways without compromising ability or purpose. God said that this is love. Who loves like this? God provided a prophecy about His purpose to dwell on Earth, to show us exactly who He is and what He represents. That prophecy was fulfilled and historically documented in scripture. That’s pretty compelling evidence of perfect integrity! That’s the majesty of our God!
Prayer for today
Our heavenly Father, we are thankful for the testimony of Your Word that reminds us of who You are when we forget. We often ask You to work powerfully and miraculously in our lives, frequently diminishing the great miracles You have already performed to save us from sin, death, and hell. Forgive us for the times when Your Word is not sufficient to give us confidence in You. We know the environments in which we live and work are dark and discouraging. Remind us that You have always worked despite the circumstances and have always succeeded. Help us to remember that You are never affected by our inability to understand You and Your purposes, and may we be encouraged to know that You always reveal Your majesty as promised, one way or another. We pray these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.
