O LORD, You [are] my God. I will exalt You, I will praise Your name, for You have done wonderful [things]; [Your] counsels of old [are] faithfulness [and] truth. - Isaiah 25:1
The world's knowledge and wisdom are vastly different from God’s. Human wisdom changes over time. We discover new things, which shows that our current understanding is often limited. New information will inevitably surface, exposing problems with our current perspective. The good advice we receive or give today might be wrong tomorrow because of our imperfect understanding of life’s circumstances and all the variables involved.
“O LORD, You [are] my God. I will exalt You…”
God doesn’t face this problem. His Word remains as powerful today as it was when He declared, “Let there be light.” How can we be sure of this? Isaiah Chapter 25 is a song of praise to God, starting with an emphasis on His wisdom. Why is God’s wisdom supreme? His deeds prove the honesty of His counsel. Isaiah described the miracles God performed to establish and protect Israel. Since Abraham’s time, God’s covenants with Israel have faced constant challenges. The testimony in Revelation Chapter 12 shows that the devil has targeted Israel, seeking to reach Jesus. This is why Israel has such a unique history. Different groups and nations have hated, threatened, and persecuted Israel like no other nation. Yet, they continue to exist and endure. This explains why Isaiah praised God.

“For You have done wonderful [things]…”
God performed incredible miracles to protect Israel from their enemies, ultimately preserving His covenants with them. Even though it is "from old," God’s counsel is just as valuable as His miracles. God’s counsel refers to the wisdom He provides that enables His people to govern themselves correctly, using sound judgment to reduce risks. Israel’s history shows that many of their struggles occurred when they rejected God’s counsel. God’s wisdom is always right.
“[Your] counsels of old [are] faithfulness [and] truth…”
Many criticize the Bible because it is an ancient text, claiming its contents are outdated. However, this is not true. The wisdom that God gave to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob was enough to protect Israel during the days of Moses and King David, as well as in the time of the prophet Isaiah. When Jesus came into the world and taught from the scriptures, He showed that the value of His “old counsels” was still great. His testimony from the Book of Revelation and the related prophecies continue to affirm these truths.
God’s Word is eternal because He exists outside of time and the limitations that restrict our understanding. He perceives all of life’s variables at once and knows how to handle everything from His exalted perspective. He is the one who directs all the factors of life to produce specific results according to His predetermined purposes. Is there a better source of information? Who holds all the knowledge that God does? Whose words can transcend time and space like those of the eternal, unchanging Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?
Prayer for today
Our heavenly Father, thank You for sharing the benefits of Your wisdom. The value of Your understanding is eternally great because You do not change. Forgive our unbelief in areas where we have doubted Your counsel. Help us to trust that Your Word is the true standard for good judgment, enabling us to make sound decisions in all areas of life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
